A collective of runners seeking joy and connection through movement.
Who this is for:
- Those who enjoy running.
- Those who don’t enjoy running and would like to find more joy in running.
- Those who don’t run who would like inspiration and accountability to help them give it a try.
- Those who run competitively who would like to explore other aspects of their relationship to running.
- Those who run due to health goals with no intention of competing who would like to explore other aspects of their relationship to running.
If you subscribe on Substack, you will receive a weekly newsletter from me that includes thought-provoking quotes, reflection prompts, discussion questions, and other informational resources. The purpose of this newsletter is to facilitate connection to yourself as you explore your relationship to running and movement and, if you opt in, connection with other runners through comments on Substack and connection with other runners through “runner pods.” Runner pods are groups of 3-4 subscribers that I have connected to check in weekly with one another about their running and the prompts I provide (if desired) to at times dig a little deeper with one another, and other times, to find a bit of silliness in your week.
The first newsletter will be sent on Sunday, August 16. Enrollment to join a pod is now open. To join a pod, subscribe on Substack by August 10th. You will receive a welcome email with instructions for how to join a pod. If you complete the form by Thursday, August 13th, you will receive your introduction to your pod by the end of the day on Saturday, August 15th.
Collective Guidelines:
You may subscribe to the weekly newsletter and not join a pod, this requires zero engagement. Just enjoy the read! If you’d like to be able to post comments on the newsletter and participate in pods, a paid subscription is required (any level of paid subscription qualifies). The requirement to have a paid subscription serves as a safeguard for our community.
If you opt into a pod, you are agreeing to touch base at least weekly with your pod members, and to determine together how and what you would like to communicate with one another. If your pod members report that you have not communicated with the pod for over two weeks, you may be removed from the pod. If this occurs and you would like to adjust your subscription type, you are responsible for doing so.
Whether you engage with the collective via comments on Substack or through communication with your pod, discriminatory comments will not be tolerated in this space and will result in being blocked from the Substack and removed from your pod. If this occurs and you would like to adjust your subscription type, you are responsible for doing so.
Pod Structure
If you opt into a pod, Jo will invite you into a Group Me chat with 2-3 other runners. You will be introduced to your pod members via email and the email will include details to join your Group Me chat. Each week, you will at minimum share a running-related update using the Rose, Bud, Thorn framework. Additionally, you are encouraged to share your thoughts about the quote and reflection questions Jo has shared on Substack. If you would like more from this pod, this is up to pod-members to determine together. Weeks run Monday – Sunday.
Rose: A highlight from the week
Bud: Something you are looking forward to, something you feel hopeful about, something you feel inspired by
Thorn: A challenge or painpoint from the week
All prompts you are given are challenge-by-choice, meaning you are invited to share but are welcome to share how much and what you want to share in response to any prompt. You may skip prompts, as long as you remain engaged with your pod in other ways that meet your pod’s communication expectations.
To ensure consistency for pod members, there is an open enrollment week for pods every 3 months. There will be an invitation in the newsletter in the weeks leading up to the open enrollment week.
Cost to Subscribe
You can subscribe to the newsletter for free. I’m glad you’re here!
If you would like to post comments and/or join a pod, you can choose to subscribe for $15/mo or $160/year.
